ARSENAL fans have joked that the club should put in a bid to sign Neymar from PSG – and then spend the next thousand years paying off the transfer fee.
Supporters of several big clubs are hoping they make a shock move for the forward after his relationship with Les Parisiens broke down.
Barcelona lead the race to re-sign Neymar but are yet to make a formal bid.
And PSG have condemned the player for not turning up to the start of pre-season training, an absence his father claims was planned with consent.
Arsenal fans on Reddit felt there was an opportunity for the Gunners to make hay – on one condition.
One poster wrote: “PSG, can we interest you in €222 million over the next 100 years?”
The buy-now-pay-later idea was met with some suspicion.
One commenter laughed: “More like in 1000 years.”
Another said: “To be fair the £20m backhander we’d have to give his dad would be a lot more subtle paid over a decade or two.”
PSG sporting director Leonardo admitted on Monday that Neymar’s future could well be away from Paris, if their valuation is met.
He said: “Neymar can leave PSG, if there is an offer that suits everyone.
“But to date, we do not know if anyone wants to buy it or at what price. All this is not done in a day, that’s for sure.
“PSG wants to rely on players who want to stay and build something big.
“We do not need players who would do a favour at the club by staying here.”
Amazingly, some Arsenal fans online rejected the notion of signing the star.
One commented: “He’d play one game a year.”
Another added: “I would rather not. Neymar hits the ground when someone mildly glances at him in Ligue 1. Dude would spend entire matches in the fetal position in the PL.”
One sighed: “I’m sure we can turn even Neymar into your average Sunday leaguer.”
